There are seasons for routine and seasons for change, and holy cow has this been a season of change. I feel like life has been a little up in the air since last fall, when Brandon started job hunting for the summer. We didn’t know where we’d be for the summer, and with my biggest freelance contract ending in May, I didn’t know what I’d be doing work-wise by then. While everything has felt pretty settled in terms of our life here in Laramie, the future has felt like a big tornado of uncertainty.
I’m glad to say that within the last month or so, the dust has majorly settled. Lesson learned: don’t try to outthink God and try to figure out where He’s taking you. He likes surprises and hates surprise-ruiners. But thankfully His surprises are always good ones!
Brandon will be working outside of Denver this summer for a district attorney’s office, working as a prosecutor. In the larger cities, the offices are so swamped that they essentially use their interns as extra attorneys. Brandon’s going to be serving up plea deals and taking people to court. I’m so excited for him. It all seems way too legit.
This means we’ll be in the Denver suburbs this summer. Through some major blessings, we were able to find an affordable place to stay this summer, super close to Brandon’s work and my new job.
Yes, new job! I’m so freaking excited. Freelancing for a year and a half was AMAZING. I got to make a ton of new connections and learned more about the professional world – and myself – at light speed. You know what’s even more amazing than freelancing though? A steady income! Ha.
Like I mentioned, my biggest contract is coming to an end in May, and so I saw this as an opportunity to settle down and pursue something full time. Through a series of events which can really only be viewed as orchestrated by God, I received and excitedly accepted an offer with a PR firm in Denver. They do a lot of work in public health, so I’m still going to get my dose of do-good, and the work is interesting and completely new to me. I love the team, and I love the challenge. They’re going to allow me to work in person for the summer, then work from home while Brandon finishes law school. Praise Jesus for another year of being able to do work in my fuzzy socks in my living room!
I’m also excited that I’m ALMOST at 30 pounds lost! I’m at 29 down right now, and currently fighting with the 30th pound. I think my scale is purposely upping my weight to torture me. But I’m still having fun, still feeling great, and pretty confident I’ll meet my goal of being 30 pounds down before we leave for Vegas in May. I will likely gain a few of those pounds back in poolside piña coladas, but I’ll totally be okay with that.
Right now, things still feel crazy but good. This next month is going to be a whirlwind of winding down my current clients and projects, helping my sister move out of her dorm and into our apartment (she’s going to take our lease for the summer), going to Vegas, then moving down to Denver and starting work. Meanwhile, Brandon will be doing almost all of that plus taking his finals. Oh, and I’m out of town like every weekend for work until we leave for Vegas.
Best tips for starting a new job? Recommendations of where we should eat this summer in Denver? Magic recipes for calorie-free piña coladas? I need all the advice, because we’re moving into a whole lot of new territory here.
